Soup Club & Fresh Starts

Last fall during the midst of calendar printing, we started a little thing that we’ve been calling ‘Soup Club.’ It’s nothing fancy or official, but rather a way for our small team to connect over a shared meal together even when we’re busy running in a lot of different directions here around the studio.

You see, even though we’re a small team, when we are printing the noises from the machines can be quite loud to talk over so we often listen to music or podcasts. Other times, we may all be in different rooms depending on whether we need to pack orders, crease cards, or answer emails. FYI, for this reason we are always open and receptive to podcast and playlist recommendations!

Thus, Megan came up with the idea for Soup Club! Think of it as a humble little lunch club with your colleagues to share the joy of eating (which we all love!) and trying new recipes together. Each of us took a few turns picking out a recipe that spoke to us and cooking it for the team. So far, there’s been everything from French Onion to Miso Ramen. We have even dipped our toes (or should we say spoons?) into avgolemono! Avgolemono is a family of sauces and soups that use a combination of egg yolk and lemon mixed with broth as a thickener. Yes, it’s as delicious as it sounds!

In between printing 2,000 - 4,000 pieces of paper a day, sharing a nourishing bowl of soup was just what we needed to keep going during the long days leading up to sending out the annual letterpress garden calendars. Now, during this quieter time at the start of the year, trying new recipes feels like a thread connecting us back to that comfort and nourishment we crave. Soup Club also feels like an invitation to explore the nudges that make us feel curious and excited at the start of this new year. Maybe we’ll be trying some from this adventurous list of soups!

We’ve got some new, exciting things on the horizon like our new studio space which we plan to transition into in the coming months. This business continues to grow and evolve, just like all of us/ In order to grow into new spaces (figuratively and literally), we have to shed that which no longer serves us. Whether that’s taking the time to deep clean and organize our studio inventory or carving out quiet time to dream and design for new releases later this year, we are grateful that this month has gifted us the space to do these things, rest, and recharge.
