OUR STUDIO IS CLOSED FOR THE YEAR

We're getting some much needed rest, and we hope you're doing the same. Do some things that fill your cup up and say no to things that don't. Eat something delicious, go outside, and pick up a good book. Thank you for all of the love and support. Don't worry about joining our newsletter... I just can't figure out how to turn that part of this pop-up off. Oh technology...

When we came up with this idea, I didn't know if y'all would jump in and be willing to share photos of the plants and flowers that keep you company in the places you call home, but I should have been more concerned with how difficult it was going to be to choose just one to make a print from! That being said, we are so very excited to be doing one of these prints each and every month this year!

For our first ever Greenhouse Series print, we selected a photo submitted by Taylor of Brockport, New York using the #bppgreenhouse hashtag. Her flower arrangement immediately drew us in with its lovely color, composition, and layers. Also, that vase…. So without further ado, let us take a moment to share the heart behind ‘The Taylor’ – the first ever Greenhouse Series letterpress print!

“A lot goes on in our beautiful yet chaotic world but nothing compares or matters more than human flesh and connection. Love yourself, love the ones around you and strive each day to make new or better relationships. That’s what truly matters.”

-Taylor W., New York @honeywildstudio

After selecting the photo (no easy feat!), Megan began designing the illustration (keep scrolling to see the design progression below!) and working through color options and variations. After the plates arrived from New York, we started printing the design on our 100% cotton, soft and luxurious paper. This print has five colors which means it was hand run through our Vandercook SP20 Letterpress a total of five times for each print! One run = one color.

This print has five colors:

  1. A milky blue grey

  2. Ochre

  3. Eucalyptus green

  4. Subtly rich brown

  5. And a cream feather

After that, the paper is carefully trimmed down to the final 8” x 10” size. Finally, for the most exciting part, we carefully wrapped and packaged the first copy of the 50 limited edition letterpress print and mailed it to Taylor! How amazing is it that social media allows us to connect with another human being, share our love for house plants and flowers, and the ultimately, ship a letterpress print 972 miles away to said individual?!! Real and meaningful connections can happen on the internet and on social media, and that’s what we’re committed to fostering!
